General FAQs
How do I book a vehicle?
You can book over the telephone, via email or in person.
How far ahead do I have to book?
A week or so is usually enough notice but We would recommend booking as soon as you're certain of your dates and bear in mind that the most people move house on the last weekend in any month, so vans are always busy at that time!
What is included in the price?
The prices we quote over the phone and on the website include your hire, fully comprehensive insurance cover, roadside breakdown cover, and VAT.

Vehicle FAQS
Which van is best for house removals?
Obviously this depends on how much furniture you have. However, most people use our Luton Vans with taillifts, as these have a large, square loadspace and the taillift helps with loading heavy items. If you want to check the size of any vehicle in person, you are welcome to visit and look inside the vans.
Will I need to check the vehicle over?
We ask you to inspect the vehicle for damage at the start of the hire, there is no need for you to check for anything more. All our vehicles undergo a 100 item pre-rental inspection and are cleaned and tested before each hire. If you have the vehicle for a while, we would ask you to keep an eye on the oil and water levels, but you are welcome to bring it in to us occasionally, so that we can check it for you.
What happens if the vehicle breaks down?
All our hire vehicles have emergency roadside assistance, located in the vehicle windscreen.
What happens if I have an accident?
You need to notify us as soon as possible and follow the procedure laid down in our terms and conditions. If you have taken our CDW, you will be charged the reduced excess, although this would be refunded if we recover the accident costs from a third party. If the damage amounts to less than the excess, you will only be charged for the actual cost of repairs.
Can I carry animals?
We would prefer that you didn't, but providing that you protect the vehicle and interior and accept that you may be charged for any damaged caused by the animal and additional cleaning (particularly if we have to remove dog hairs), we would permit it.
Do I have to worry about AdBlue?
Adblue is used to produce cleaner emissions in new (Euro 6 onwards) diesel vehicles. For short term hires this will rarely be a problem as we top them up pre-hire, but if the AdBlue does get low during your rental, a warning light will appear showing the mileage range remaining before a refill is needed, a top up on this occasion would be needed.
Paperwork FAQs
What do I need to bring with me?
We will need to see the driving licence of anybody you want insured to drive. If you have a photocard licence, you will only need to bring the photocard. Instead of the paper counterpart, you will need to bring with you your DVLA check code. Found from the Gov.uk Website under ‘View or Share your driving licence information’. A proof of address (e.g. utility bill dated within 3 months) and credit or debit card.
I can't find my licence, can I still hire?
Our Insurance Company stipulate that we must see the original Driving Licence, therefore you must make sure you bring it with you when you collect your vehicle.
What vehicles am I entitled to drive?
This will depend on what categories are on your driving licence. Everybody should have the entitlement to drive vehicles up to 3500kg GVW with up to 8 passenger seats. If you want to hire a minibus you will need to have group D1 shown on your licence and if you need to drive a 7.5ton lorry, you must hold group C1.
What happens if I get a parking ticket?
With any type of fine (parking, congestion charge, bus lane, etc), we will receive the penalty notice if it is not paid at the time. This is normally returned with your details to the issuing authority, who then contact you for payment. We charge an administration fee of £10.00 + vat in this circumstance.
Insurance FAQs
What age do I have to be to hire?
Under normal terms, BCRs insurance covers drivers between the ages of 25 and 75 inclusive, with 2 years driving experience.
Can I hire if I have points on my licence?
Yes, but it is best to check with us as there are certain endorsements that we cannot insure. We can usually accept minor endorsements (e.g. SP, TS codes) but if you have anything else, or an accumulation of minor endorsements, we will probably need to check with our insurers. Depending on the number and nature of the offences on your licence, an extra charge and increased excess may be applied.
What excess am I liable for?
If you have taken our Collision Damage Waiver, you will only be liable for the first £200 of any damage repairs. (This option is only available for Cars)
Without the CDW, your excess liability would be £500 on Cars and Vans and £750 on minibuses. Of course any excess is refunded if we recover the accident costs from a third party, and if the damage amounts to less than the excess, you will only be charged for the actual cost of repairs.
All Windscreen excess are £500
What is Collision Damage Waiver?
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is Only Available on Cars Not on Vans and Minibuses hires, it is a chargeable option that you can pay in order to reduce the amount of the insurance excess that you are liable for.
Are the contents of the hire vehicle insured?
No, loss of or damage to anything being transported or towed is not covered. Your home contents insurance may cover personal items being carried, but we suggest you check this beforehand.
Does BCRs insurance cover all types of use?
Our insurance covers both private and business use, but certain restrictions apply. For example, our insurance does not cover using the vehicle off road, or for the carriage of passengers or goods for hire or reward (i.e. taxi, chauffeur drive, courier). If you need a hire vehicle for such a purpose, please talk to us first, as we may be able to approach our insurers.
Will my trailer be covered if I use a BCR vehicle to tow it?
No. Our cover extends to third party damage caused by whatever's being towed, but damage to, or loss of, your trailer/caravan is not covered. We recommend that you arrange separate insurance beforehand.
Payment FAQS
Can I pay with cash?
No, all payments are to be made by credit or debit card.
How much is the deposit?
In addition to the hire charge, we ask for a deposit of £250 on Vans and Minibuses and a £100 Deposit on Cars.
How soon is my deposit refunded?
When you return a hire vehicle, we process the deposit refund, less any fuel refill or damage charges, straightaway. The speed with which the funds reach your account will depend on your bank or card processors, however our customers usually seem to receive the refund within 3-4 working days.
What do I do about fuel?
However much fuel is in the vehicle please return with the same amount of fuel, Any fuel refill needed is then deducted from your deposit and a refuel charge for our time will be applied.
